Websites:
- Many websites are used in the Spanish Department. All students will be required to access three main sites weekly AND other sites as needed.
- PowerSchool – This is where I will put all your grades. You will receive an access code from the office. Make sure you check PowerSchool often. If there is a “0” as your grade, chances are YOU FORGOT TO DO THIS assignment and you need to talk to me about it.
- Weebly - I use this site for information. You will go here for all handouts, lessons and downloads. You will also go here to find your homework for the week, any projects you may have and even links for videos or tests. http://proferankin.weebly.com/
- Google Classroom - This site is for turning in homework. You will go here to turn in all required homework, projects or other necessary materials. Here are the access codes for each hour of class. Make sure you join the proper class.

Basic Spanish Class Expectations:
1. You will need a 3-ring binder to create a “book” using the materials you receive in class.
2. You will have to work with a partner daily. This requires you to speak with your partner in Spanish and to complete worksheets together. You do not get to pick your partner.
3. You will have quizzes/tests per unit. This will require YOU to study Spanish daily. Tests/quizzes are worth 40% of my overall grade, so understand that these are important.
4. You will have to complete projects. These projects are called “yo puedo” projects. They reinforce concepts learned in class or teach me new things about Hispanic culture. Projects are in the testing portion of YOUR grade, which means that these are also worth 40% of your grade and are important.
5. Absent work is due ASAP. I understand that I need to turn in all work the day I return. I also need to schedule an appointment to take any missed tests/quizzes.
6. You will be required to participate in oral quizzes and oral presentations. Some are done individually with the teacher and some are done in front of the class. Note: if we go to distance learning, you may need to record your oral quizzes and send them to me. If this happens, I will be using a program named “Flipgrid”.
Classroom Rules:
- Come to class prepared. When the bell rings, class begins…and I use every minute of it! Necessary Materials: computer (with the battery charged), headphones, 3 ring binder (with dividers) and filler paper/notebook, pencil and a correcting pen. We also use colored pencils and markers. Remember: we aren’t supposed to share materials right now…so, if you have the ability to purchase a glue stick, markers and colored pencils PLEASE DO and keep them in your locker. I’ll let you know when we will use them in class.
- Absent work – if you need to make-up homework, quizzes, tests, projects, please come and see me! Homework assignments will need to be corrected by you and you will be given one week to complete this. If you need to make up a quiz/test/project, we will make it up at a time that both of us can meet. You will have to make arrangements with me for day/time. Per each week late, a 10% deduction in the grade received will be assigned. Note: some items are time sensitive and the ability to make up the project/oral activity/quiz/test/homework assignment will depend on the situation. Also, I will put a “0” in your grade until you MAKE it up.
· Homework/Groupwork: You should expect to have two homework assignments per week. These will be graded by you (completion grades). You will have the opportunity to self-assess your level of understanding as you grade the assignment. I do grade some assignments – those are more complex and/or group work.
· Grading: I grade off for spelling mistakes and for missed accent marks, as well as the wrong answer. Therefore, make sure that you check over your work before you turn it in. Group work is graded the same way. You need to both agree on anything that is written on the paper because you both will receive the same grade.
· Internet/Cheating Warning: When projects/homework assignments are given in this class, I expect you to do your own work and not use the internet translator. All assignments given practice grammar structures and use vocabulary from our textbooks. If there are new words or grammar structures in your document that we haven’t learned yet, you will receive a “0” on the assignment. Therefore, do your own work and don’t be afraid to ask questions.
· Weighting of work: tests/quizzes/projects 40%; homework/group work/completion grades/stations 20%; Oral 40% Final Exam: The final exam is worth 20%, each quarter 40%
· You will receive “Yo Puedo” projects. Each project allows YOU to pick the assignments you want to complete to get the grade you want.
· Oral quizzes and presentations: You will be required to complete oral quizzes, oral presentations and listening activities in Spanish. You should expect to have one oral quiz per week. Oral presentations are traditionally 1 per quarter or 1 per novel, depending on the unit.
· Quizzes/Tests: You should expect to have written quizzes/tests at the end of each unit. You will need to study for these quizzes. The tests focus on the vocabulary and grammar presented in the lesson.
